So he [Jesus] bent over her [Simon’s mother in law] and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them. Luke 4:39
This is the first healing (besides kicking out demon) that Luke refers to. I’m studying the heart of God and this one sentence struck me as very important. What I see here is Jesus equipping someone to serve. By curing her of her fever, Jesus is allowing her to do what she was created to do- serve Him. I can bet you that she wasn’t perfect. She probably still had crooked teeth or an arthritic knee but when He healed that one thing, she was able to do her job. Sometimes we wait to be completely perfect in ministry but Jesus gives us exactly what we need to get the job done.
The second part of my study is that once I figure out what God’s passions are (equipping His children to serve), I try to take on that passion as my own. When I ask myself, “How can I equip other believers to serve?” there are a ton of answers. You can train, encourage, give ideas and opportunities, pray…leave some others if you think of them. So that is my new charge to myself and you!
