Sitting outside, enjoying God’s creation…..Psalm 8:6- You made him ruler over all the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air and the fish of the….WHAT! AN ANT JUST BIT ME. DIE YOU UNWORTHY MEMBER OF CLASS ARTHROPODA. MAY YOUR SOUL ALWAYS BE IN SEARCH OF A PICNIC THAT IS ETERNALLY MOVING AWAY…sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
My friend, Courtney, told me that she had a moment like that this week. We laughed really hard about it. It’s funny when it’s talking about bugs (I don’t think God expects us to take the ant that just bit us to the mall to go shopping and try to be its new best friend) but alot of Christians do it with people in church. Try this one:
Singing in church, worshipping the Lord; “I have a river, a river of life, flowing inside of me and it never runs dry. I have a treasure, glorious… WHO IS SINGING SO HORRIBLY? UGH, I CAN’T EVEN CONCENTRATE. AND WHO IS THIS SMELLY, HOMELESS MAN NEXT TO ME? WHY IS HE EVEN HERE? HASN’T HE HEARD ABOUT SOAP? I MEAN, IT’S NOT A FAIRLY NEW CONCEPT. THESE PEOPLE SHOULDN’T EVEN BE HERE…prize. The spirit of God in me, in abundant supply.”
It’s not so funny anymore, is it? Probably because we’ve all done it. [John 13:35- By this, all men will know you are my disciples, if you love one another.] That’s a pretty straight foward statement. It’s hard to worship God then turn around and persecute his children. That means we aren’t really being disciples. So, the next time you’re tempted to be unloving towards someone, remember that just by showing them love, you are being God’s disciple.
